How to merge PDFs without losing page order
Merging PDFs is simple only when the final sequence is clear. A few minutes spent naming, arranging, and checking the sources can prevent a combined document that starts with the wrong cover, repeats a section, or places an attachment before the page that refers to it.
Prepare the source files
Keep an untouched copy of every source. If filenames are vague, rename local copies with a simple sequence such as 01-cover, 02-report, and 03-appendix. The numbers are for your own preparation; PDFmint will use the order shown in the workspace.
Open each source briefly and confirm that it is the document you expect. Note its first page, last page, and page count. This makes it easier to detect a missing or duplicated file later.
Check before sharing
- Every source opens normally.
- No file is included twice under a different name.
- The intended first and last documents are known.
Build the order in Merge PDF
Open Merge PDF and choose two or more source PDFs. Each file appears as a separate card. Arrange those cards from the first document to the last using drag and drop or the move controls shown in the workspace.
Do not rely only on similar filenames. Use the preview and page count on each card to confirm its identity. If one source is wrong, remove that card and add the correct file before processing.
Steps
- Choose all source PDFs, or add them in smaller groups.
- Move each document card into the required reading order.
- Compare the visible file count and total page count with your notes.
- Create the merged PDF and download it before leaving the workspace.
Review the joins, not just the first page
A correct cover does not prove that the whole result is correct. Open the downloaded PDF and inspect the boundary between every pair of source documents: the last page of one block and the first page of the next.
Also compare the result's total page count with the sum of the source page counts. Merge normally preserves the original page content, but the final responsibility is still to review the document before sending, printing, or archiving it.
Check before sharing
- The cover and final page are correct.
- Every transition between source PDFs is in the expected place.
- The total page count matches the source total.
- Text, links, signatures, and page orientation look as expected.
What happens to the files
In the current free service, Merge PDF processes the selected files inside browser memory. The sources are not sent to a PDFmint processing route. The active files and result are temporary, so download the merged copy before refreshing or closing the page.
If a source contains confidential information, work on a trusted device and review the final copy for accidental pages before sharing it. Do not email a source document or password to support.
